Scholarship objectives
​​To provide financial assistance to area high school graduates who are working for a degree in fitness, health, wellness and medical fields.  To help promote the balance of healthy living, following your dreams and the building of self confident and healthy future leaders in our communities. 

Todd E Schmauss Memorial Scholarship and Foundation

Todd E Schmauss grew up in Cresco, Iowa.   A small town athlete, he excelled in all sports and of course, being from Iowa, most of all in wrestling.  He graduated from Crestwood High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Fitness Management from Upper Iowa University.  While attending Iowa Central, he was a  Junior College wrestling  All American.  After college Todd played semi-pro football with the Rochester Giants.  He found a passion for cage fighting and went on to train extensively and won the MMA  
Todd died unexpectedly at the age of 35, leaving behind his wife Kim and three children.  Todd lived his life with true passion, always pursuing those things that he felt were important.  He owned and operated his own gym "The Mat" in Decorah, Iowa where he specialized in cross training and in coaching and inspiring young athletes.  He had a heart of gold and everyone knew it.  There will never be another one like him.  This Scholarship and newly forming Foundation will strive to continue to inspire and offer financial, spiritual and leadership assistance to athletes and their families.  Todd would have wanted that.
Heavy Weight Title for World War Fighting Championships. Todd's personal portfolio includes such accolades as three time HS State Qualifier, fourth all time wins at Crestwood High School, fourth place All American JUCO Nationals, along with his years of experience at Iowa Central, Upper Iowa and the University of Iowa.  Described by his competitors as "A Beast" and a "Sledge Hammer" Todd never let anyone tell him he couldn't do something and he was fearless in competition and in life. 

Leadership for Students and Athletes

The Schmauss Respect project offers materials for coaches on motivating students and athletes.  We offer access to motivation speakers and athletes that can not only inspire but share experiences that can be life changing to those that hear it.  The Schmauss Respect project provides affordable fitness, cross fitness and sports camps for youth and high school programs.  Our mission is to not only motivate and inspire student athletes but to help them recognize and appreciate their talents, differences and potential in all areas of their life.
